MUSIC + ACTION

Music in honor of Black lives destroyed by systemic racism and police brutality. Listen and take action below.

Breath

IN MEMORY OF GEORGE FLOYD

2 minutes and 53 seconds. That's how long police officers continued to pin George Floyd after he became unresponsive. In honor of the final moments of George Floyd’s life, this piece is 2 minutes and 53 seconds of music in place of that horrible span of silence.

Etude

In Memory of Elijah McClain

Elijah McClain was a 23-year-old massage therapist in Aurora, Colorado. During his lunch breaks, he would often bring his violin to a local animal shelter to play music for the stray animals. He felt the music calmed them. This music for solo violin was written to honor the peace he brought to the people and creatures in his life.

An etude is a solo piece written for a musician to study. This piece was given that name because this horrific incident is something we all need to study and learn from—to recognize the racism that caused it and do the necessary work to stop it from happening again.

TAKE ACTION

Elijah McClain was killed in 2019, and still the police officers who murdered him have yet to be charged. Demand their firing and arrest at these numbers. You can find a sample message at the link below.

Nocturne

IN MEMORY OF BREONNA TAYLOR

Breonna Taylor was an EMT and ER technician in Louisville, Kentucky, with plans of becoming a nurse. In the weeks before her death, she had been working on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, working at two local hospitals. She once said of her job, “Working in health care is so rewarding. It makes me feel so happy when I know I've made a difference in someone else's life.“ All of that was cut short on March 13, 2020, when plainclothes police officers burst into Breonna’s home in the middle of the night.

This piece was written in honor of Breonna and her last night, with the hope that it has left all of us awake.

TAKE ACTION

No-Knock Warrants

As a result of protests and petitions following Breonna’s death, no-knock warrants have been banned locally in Louisville, but are still in use by police departments across the country. Demand an end to no-knock warrants nationwide.
